Popular Asheville Vegan Cheese

Designed in 2019

It was an absolute pleasure working with Gwen on a logo for her vegan cheese company, darë. Her business launched in 2019 and it's been amazing seeing the growth that her business has achieved. She started off by selling her products at farmers markets and now has a whole team of employees that make and sell their vegan cheese in so many stores nationwide including Whole Foods and Earthfare.

darë vegan cheese is all about having options and using as few ingredients as possible. It's not intended to pressure or push an agenda, the goal is simply to have a non-dairy option and provide a product that people can believe in and trust. Gwen has an extensive background as a chef and believes that people should eat what makes them happy and wants to give people choices. When Gwen reached out to me about a logo design, she hadn't actually created the cheese yet, she just knew she could do it. She had a desire to create alternative dairy products that actually taste good (AND THEY DO! This is coming from someone who is not vegan).

The name darë is inspired by Gwen's middle name, Dare, and is a play off the word dairy. She was seeking a clean, simple, healthy design that highlighted the plant-based nature of her product. Since the cashew plant is a big player in vegan cheese, I drew a playful cashew plant to incorporate into the design. You can even see it in tattoo form above!

*Note: I initially designed darë’s website on Squarespace, but with their growth they decided to change platforms to Shopify. While I don’t design in Shopify, I do think it’s a more robust ecommerce platform. I don’t work with online stores anymore because of Squarespace’s online store limitations, but would be happy to recommend other Shopify designers to those that need it!
